Google has released a follow-up stable update for Chrome 148 on desktop, moving the browser to version 148.0.7778.167/168 for Windows and macOS and 148.0.7778.167 for Linux. The update is rolling out gradually, but it is notable because it adds another large package of security fixes only one week after the initial Chrome 148 stable release.

Google Issues Chrome 148 Follow-Up With 79 Security Fixes

The Chrome Releases post says this update includes 79 security fixes. Among the publicly highlighted issues are several critical vulnerabilities, including a heap buffer overflow in WebML, an integer overflow in Skia, and use-after-free issues affecting components such as UI, FileSystem, Input, Aura, HID and Blink. Google lists researcher reward amounts for some externally reported issues, including rewards of $43,000 and $25,000 for two critical bugs.

The update demonstrates how fast-moving browser security has become. Modern browsers are complex platforms that handle graphics, machine learning interfaces, file access, hardware devices, media, authentication and web application logic. A flaw in any of those areas can become significant if it can be reached through a malicious webpage.

Google again warns that technical bug details may be limited until most users are protected. That approach gives defenders time to patch before attackers can study the full issue history.

For users, the practical advice remains the same: open Chrome's About page, allow the update to install, and relaunch the browser. Enterprises should check their managed-browser update policies to ensure the new version reaches Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints quickly.

This second Chrome 148 security release underlines that staying current is not optional. A browser update is often one of the quickest and most effective defenses against active web-based attacks.
